Summer Activities in Utah

Go for a Hike

Utah offers a wide range of hiking adventures, from long backpacking trips to quick day hikes. Hiking is an excellent way to appreciate this region’s diverse landscapes while getting some exercise in at the same time. Some of Utah’s most popular hiking trails include:

Angel’s Landing

Among the many hikes in Utah, Angel’s Landing is by far one of the most well-known. The hike features a steep incline and beautiful scenery that draws tourists from all over the world. It offers unbeatable views of narrow ledges on red rocks. To avoid crowds, stay away during peak hours, like early morning or late evening.

Bell’s Canyon

This picturesque canyon is home to breathtaking vistas and a natural stream. Hikers should expect dramatic twists and turns, as well as the beautiful spray of water cascading down from one of Bell’s many waterfalls.

Ensign Peak

A popular trail for local hikers, the Ensign Peak Trail is rich in expansive views of the Salt Lake Valley. The well-maintained trail gains nearly 400 feet of elevation from its start to the summit. This short hike may be strenuous due to steep slopes (particularly near the top), so it’s most suitable for healthy adults and children.

Lake Blanche

Lake Blanche is one of the most beautiful destinations in Utah, with a challenging route and a scenic payoff. Up three miles from the trailhead at Big Cottonwood Canyon and surrounded by striking mountainscapes, this emerald lake offers visitors an opportunity to catch their breath. Prepare for your phone battery to die because you’ll be taking hundreds of pictures.

Visit the Farmer’s Market at Pioneer Park

The Salt Lake City Farmers Market at Pioneer Park has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to grab some fresh produce, a new local artisanal product, or want to try out the latest food truck from around town, this market is a perfect Saturday morning destination.

Take a Ride on Lagoon Amusement Park

Lagoon Amusement Park isn’t your typical amusement park. This Utah landmark doesn’t skimp on excitement. Ride one of the country’s oldest wooden roller coaster or hop on the new rides to be terrified out of your wits. If all these thrills have left you feeling brave enough, hop aboard the Ferris wheels or take a spin around the carousel that has been entertaining visitors since 1906. It might just bring back some nostalgic memories from childhood.

Rock Out at the Twilight Concert Series

The Twilight Concert Series takes place in Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah. With well-known performers from various music genres, these concerts are the perfect way to enjoy live performances for $10 per ticket while being surrounded by fellow concertgoers under an incredible night sky.

Make it a Lake Day

Utah’s awe-inspiring landscapes make it a wonderland for outdoor enthusiasts. The state has an unusually high number of lakes due to mountain damming, with many spectacular settings ranging from Southern to Northern Utah. Here are some of Utah’s top lakes:

Float the Provo River

What better way to beat the heat than floating down a river? The Provo River offers a brisk and refreshing break on those +95F days. If you’ve already done this side of Utah Valley, head over to Weber County for an even cooler experience. After your float, make sure to stop by Taggarts Grill to try their famous carrot cake.
